In Samunprai, kaffir lime is revered for its cleansing properties and is commonly used in traditional herbal steam treatments to detoxify the skin. The rind and juice are also used in Thai dips and salads, while the fruit’s essential oils have antibacterial properties and are often used in natural remedies to promote healthy digestion and immune function.
Kaffir lime leaves can be added whole (with the central vein removed) or in pieces to soups, curries, stews, or other dishes.
To prepare kaffir lime leaves, you can "bruise" or crush them to release their aroma before adding them to a dish. Fresh leaves can be twisted to create small cuts or shredded/chopped into strips. Frozen leaves should be defrosted and gently muddled before use.
