Lychee originates from China and South-East Asia and is part of the soapberry family of fruits, along with rambutan and longan.

Lychee also has similarities with many other common fruits. Its skin shares the rough and bumpy texture of berries such as strawberries and raspberries, while the fruit inside is tender and transparent with a sweet floral taste which can be likened to a mix of grapes and pear. 

Lychee can be eaten raw on its own but is also delicious when added to fruit salads, desserts and beverages.
